My wife has been a homemaker for our entire marriage. Is she eligible for Social Security in her name or only for a spousal benefit?

She will turn 62 in a couple years.

If your wife has not worked at least 40 quarters - ten years - she will have no benefit in her name, but will be eligible for a spousal benefit if you have worked for the required 40 quarters. This last part may seem obvious, but we have seen times where the working spouse has not been in this country working long enough to accumulate the 40 quarters.
