Consumers will spend an average of $674 on back-to-school items this year (up from $630 in 2015) for a total of $75.8 billion: $235.39 on clothing and accessories, $204.06 on electronics, $126.65 on shoes, and $107.76 on school supplies.

Did even think we spent so much on school supplies. We learned to buy through the year though.

It is crazy how much it costs just to go to school. When I was in school we just needed pencil and paper and a couple outfits. Times have really changed.

I homeschool, so we don't spend a lot on basic back-to-school supplies like others do. Unfortunately, we spend a ton on curriculum, so there's that. lol
