I am a retiree. Should I declare the long term disability payments I received in 2014 from my previous employer- as income?

Per the insurance company, the payments are non-taxable so I did not receive any W2 or 1099. Note: I transitioned from my medical leave to my retirement.

It’s hard to determine the answer without knowing more details of your particular situation, but the IRS addresses this question at http://www.irs.gov/Help-&-Resources/Tools-&-FAQs/FAQs-for-Individuals/Frequently-Asked-Tax-Questions-&-Answers/Interest,-Dividends,-Other-Types-of-Income/Life-Insurance-&-Disability-Insurance-Proceeds/Life-Insurance-&-Disability-Insurance-Proceeds-1

If that does not cover your particular circumstance, we recommend reaching out to the IRS directly or a tax professional. | 03.13.15 @ 23:30
